Eye am watching

Apprentice You suggested I try writing about what I think the differences are between mindfulness practice and the practice of shi-né, so here is what I think. I think the biggest difference would be the use of reference points in practicing mindfulness, going back to the breath, using the body (body-scan meditation), while in shiné there are no reference points, nothing is labeled, all is as it is,

Ngala Rig’dzin & Tsal’gyür Wangmo All quite right so far.

Apprentice just to be looked at like,

Ngala Rig’dzin & Tsal’gyür Wangmo Looking is not the practice. If you find yourself looking, let go of looking.

Apprentice but not held on to, not following one certain thought, just watching all

Ngala Rig’dzin & Tsal’gyür Wangmo Watching is not the practice. If you find yourself watching, let go of watching.

Apprentice and being in all that arises,

Ngala Rig’dzin & Tsal’gyür Wangmo Being anywhere is not the practice. If you find 'yourself' anywhere, let go of observing 'yourself'.

Apprentice with emptiness as a result because ultimately everything that arises is nothing because one doesn't identify with it.

Ngala Rig’dzin & Tsal’gyür Wangmo It is not 'nothing', because it still definitely arises as a form. But the nature of form is emptiness. It is empty, yet it is not nothing. This is why the practice is called non-dual. If you leave form in its natural state, let it go and let it be, it will 'naturally' become empty. Letting go and letting be, that is the practice. But if you have the idea of 'being in all that arises' then that is still hanging on to both the sense of self and the sense of stuff.

Apprentice ultimately I think though both methods give light to the neuroses arising, the differences is what one does when one becomes aware of these neuroses.

Ngala Rig’dzin & Tsal’gyür Wangmo The flavour coming up for you seems to be the overwhelming quality of the Space element. Very good! The practice is obviously having a considerable effect.
